Biography

Painter of near-abstract landscape and figure subjects. Born 16 July 1926 in Vienna; came to England 1938. Served in the Army 1944–8. Studied at Düsseldorf Academy 1948–9 and at St Martin's School of Art 1949–53. Represented in Six Young Contemporaries, Gimpel Fils, 1951 and 1953. Influenced by the de Staël exhibition in London 1953. First one-man show in London at Gimpel Fils 1954 and in New York at Paul Rosenberg & Co. 1961. Has taught at St Martin's School of Art from 1954. His work is published in: Mary Chamot, Dennis Farr and Martin Butlin, The Modern British Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, London 1964.
