Biography

Artist, teacher and writer, great-grandson of the artist Benjamin West. Studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, later teaching lithography there and at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art. He was a friend of Stanley Spencer, collaborating with him to produce lithographs from Spencer’s drawings. Wrote a number of books, including Autolithography, 1960, and The Craft and Design of Monumental Brasses, 1969, and illustrated many others. Executed murals for the liner Queen Elizabeth II. Chairman of the Senefelder Group and a member of RBA, the Craft Centre of Great Britain and The Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. Exhibited with leading societies and had several solo shows at Leicester Galleries. In 1996 was included in Stanley’s Friends at Olivier Foyer, Royal National Theatre, organised by Michael Dickens. The V&A, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Imperial War Museum, London Museum and Luton Art Gallery hold examples of his work. Lived in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire.
