Biography

Welch trained at the Central School of Art and worked at the Leach Pottery, St Ives in the 1950s.  In 1960 he started his own pottery.  He taught ceramics in Australia and in the U.S.A.  His exhibition career was long and distinguished with numerous shows around the world.  His commissions include the monumental Great Gilbert Pots at Lincoln Cathedral (the tallest almost 6 feet high).  Over two dozen City Museum Collections around Britain hold his work, as does the V&A National Collection.
