Biography

A painter in oil and a teacher, Newland studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art, 1936-38, gaining an Edwin Abbey Major Scholarship in 1938. During WWII she was involved in camouflage work, then taught in Scotland. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Scottish Academy, and elsewhere.
