Biography

A sculptor and painter, Draper studied at Chesterfield College of Art, 1959-62, and then at the Royal College of Art, 1965-68. He won the sculpture prize at Young Contemporaries in 1965, and in 1969 had a one-man exhibition at the Redfern Gallery. In the 1970s he took part in a number of important British and foreign shows and won a major Arts Council Award in 1977. He taught at Goldsmith’s College and at Camberwell School of Art from the mid-70s. Major solo exhibitions included Warwick Arts Trust, 1981; Austin/Desmond Fine Art, 1991; and Glen Green Gallery, Santa Fe, 1991. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1991.
