Biography

Nigel Temple was a painter, collagist and maker of objets trouvé assemblages, who also lectured and wrote on architecture and garden history. He studied at Farnham School of Art, 1948-52, specialising in illustration and graphic design. Temple later gained a Master’s Degree in architecture at University of Bristol, 1978, and a doctorate at University of Keele, 1985. He became a member of the Royal West of England Academy and had a series of one-man exhibitions including the R.W.A., Cheltenham Art Gallery, Bristol University; New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham. The Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton held a 50-year retrospective in 2000. Temple wrote several books on architectural history including ‘John Nash and the Village Picturesque’ and ‘George Repton’s Pavilion Notebook.‘ Since his death Temple’s collages have been exhibited at Anthony Hepworth Fine Art, Bath.
